Exquisite video about proportion as a principle of enoughness

In my Power of Enough teleclass (starting again in September) we talk about “proportion” as one of the principles of “enoughness”. Proportion is how your portion relates to the whole – living “in proportion” creates harmony and ease. That Goldilocks sense of “just right”. So here is some eye and mind candy to appreciate the natural proportions in the Universe.

Real Hourly Wage… lost in translation?

I just got back from a trip to Brazil, 3 wonderful weeks built around 2 days of teaching at a human services agency in one of my favorite cities. If you counted only the actual hours of standing in front of a group of Brazilian professionals and stumbling along in Portuguese, I was being paid an obscene amount. But what were my real hours, let me count the ways – and waits. (more…)

Coffee Party interview

Today I spoke about money, life, enough, economy and more with Annabel Park, founder of www.coffeepartyusa.com, on blogtalkradio. The Coffee Party was formed to bring people together around politics, culture, and community, in part in response to the polarization precipitated by The Tea Party activism. Want to listen? Monique Tilford at The Power of Enough

Here’s a link to the Global Sufficiency Network’s conference, THE POWER OF ENOUGH, I mentioned last week. What I didn’t say was that my co-author, Monique Tilford, will be speaking there. She’ll be bringing the YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE approach to “enoughness” to this gathering so it’s a chance to hear her as well as other inspiring people who hold the possibility that there can be Enough for All.

Here’s Monique’s workshop, Living a Life you Love with the Money you Have:

A firm foundation of financial unrest

I received this quote today. I love it because it speaks to the “enoughness” I teach in Your Money or Your Life as well as in my class The Freedom of Enough:

To be truly challenging, a voyage, like a life, must rest on a firm foundation of financial unrest. Otherwise, you are doomed to a routine traverse, the kind known to yachtsmen who play with their boats at sea… “cruising” it is called.

Voyaging belongs to seamen, and to the wanderers of the world (more…)

The Power of Enough

If you live in the Northeast, you might consider attending THE POWER OF ENOUGH, a conference on sufficiency from April 10-11 at MIT, produced by The Global Sufficiency Network. I’ve worked with them to craft a “sufficiency pledge” that links personal enoughness with service to the larger world and a sense of fairness. And I appreciate their partnership in considering my own core questions and teaching about How much is enough of anything? And how do we know? And what happens next – once we recognize we have enough? If you share that interest, also consider signing up for the next Freedom of Enough teleclass running from May 18 – June 15.

Here is the invitation I received from GSN: (more…)

Cool website to trade, rent or buy

A friend just sent this link http://borrowme.com/ which I had to pass on without “thoroughly vetting” to use corporate lingo. It looks like a combo of www.freecycle.org and www.craigslist.org – a community by community way to free up resources, to buy or trade or rent. On Whidbey Island, (more…)

Free enough

That could mean that I’m free enough, that I am at liberty to do as I am called but not to do any old thing I want.  But in this case it means this free recording of my introduction to the Freedom of Enough class starting this Tuesday.

This Enough course teaches the underpinnings of the program in Your Money or Your Life. It reflects the philosophical ground of being for  how Joe and I lived, the soil that grew the 9-step program. The program without the inner dimension is just strategies for saving a whack of money but cutting out unnecessary spending and keeping your eye on the goal of financial independence. It’s effective, but without a sense of what it’s all for, it is pretty mechanical. I like going for the soul. That’s definitely part of my “enough point” – or perhaps I should say my “well of enoughness”.
